Penticton will not be serviced by second flight this fall to Calgary. Over the past two years in the fall schedule WestJet Encore added a second flight three times a week into and out of Penticton to/from Calgary. Arriving later in the evening and departing early the next morning.
This past spring the new summer schedule was released and did not include the second flight and there were no firm plans for the inclusion in the fall schedule. Lauren Stewart with Encore said “WestJet evaluates all routes based on a variety of factors including ensuring we are meeting guests needs, maintaining profitable flying as well as supply and demand. In the end, we did not see the traffic necessary to sustain a second flight to Calgary.”
The City of Penticton through Tourism Penticton Society (now Travel Penticton) underwrote advertising campaigns to promote the Calgary service and later included Air Canada Jazz in some of the campaign. That commitment was not renewed for 2017 by the City.
Speaking of the City…construction activity remains strong as values to the end of July hit $139 million up about 55% from 2016.
